Dr. Mark Vierra has been part of Bernardo Dermatology Medical Group for over a decade. He
enjoys working with his great colleagues and amazing staff. More importantly, he loves caring
for all the wonderful patients he has had the pleasure of seeing over the last few years.
Dr. Vierra was born and raised in the Central Valley of California. He attended California State
University, Fresno where he obtained a degree in Functional Biology and minors in Chemistry
and Philosophy. He then attended Penn State Medical School. While there, he participated in
research on the artificial heart, and got very involved in student government, serving as class
president and vice-president of the entire student body. He was also chosen to give the
commencement address by his fellow students.
Dr. Vierra completed two years of internal medicine training at UCSD, then continued on from
there for his dermatology training, serving as chief resident in his final year. At UCSD, he
trained in all aspects of dermatology, but spent extra time seeking out further training in
cosmetic dermatology, spending time with many leaders in the field.
Dr. Vierra is board-certified and enjoys all aspects of dermatology, but has a particular interest in
the management of skin cancer and psoriasis, as well as cosmetic dermatology. His expertise
is in the use of neuromodulators, like Botox and Dysport, and dermal fillers, including Juvederm,
Perlane, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra, and others. He also enjoys the use of chemical peels
and lasers. His philosophy on the use of these products is to maintain a natural look to make
patients look “rested”, not overly treated.
For the past two years, he has been selected by the readers of the Union-Tribune as a top ten
dermatologist in San Diego. He has also been featured in print and on local news stations
discussing sun protection and risks of skin cancer.
Growing up in a small town, Dr. Vierra loves living in Poway, “The City in the Country”. He loves
the small town feel, but enjoys all the surrounding opportunities and diversity. He is married to
Dr. Elizabeth Vierra and has two sons, Spencer and Christian. In his free time, he is usually
watching them play sports.
