Botox
Dysport
These treatments can help diminish frown lines and crow’s feet without the danger and
expense of surgery. Both are a highly purified form of Botulinum toxin A, a muscle relaxant.
They are injected via a tiny needle into the superficial muscles of the face. This process relaxes
the muscles, causing the overlying wrinkles to flatten out. The benefits of these products last
approximately three to four months.

Juvederm
Restalyne
These treatments can help diminish “smile lines” around the mouth and “smoker’s” lines
around the lips. They are also used for lip augmentation. All products are composed of non-
animal based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in
the human body, and provides volume and fullness to the skin. Injections are made via a
tiny needle into the skin, and contain lidocaine anesthetic for maximum comfort. Benefits of
restored youthful fullness last approximately six months to a year.

Perlane
Perlane is the newest member of the hyaluronic acid fillers from the makers of Restylane. The
only distinction between Restylane and Perlane is that Perlane has a thicker particle size. This
allows greater filling, and often greater longevity. Perlane in injected via a tiny needle into
the skin or lips, helping to restore a more youthful appearance. Perlane contains lidocaine
anesthetic for maximum comfort and lasts approximately six months to a year.

Sculptra
Sculptra treatment can help to restore volume in the face, where the natural course of aging leads to fat loss. Sculptra is an injectable substance that contains poly-L-lactic acid, a member of the alpha hydroxy acid family. It is a biocompatible, biodegradable material that has been widely used for many years in dissolvable stitches. Sculptra is injected via a tiny needle below the surface of the skin in the areas of fat loss. It diminishes the appearance of “hollow” cheeks, restoring a youthful fullness without the need for invasive surgery. The beneficial effects of Sculptra last approximately one to two years.

Radiesse
Radiesse is made of very small, smooth calcium hydroxylapitite microspheres, which are suspended in a water-based gel carrier. Once the Radiesse is injected, a “scaffold” is formed, stimulating collagen production and encouraging tissue growth in and around the injection area. This “partnership” between Radiesse and your own body creates a natural look comprised of your own tissue and Radiesse microspheres. The results of Radiesse are immediate and typically last a year or more. www.radiesse.com

Peels |

Acne Facial
This facial treatment is ideal for patients suffering from persistent acne. This procedure
combines comedonal extractions, a light glycolic peel and a liquid nitrogen slush. It helps to
eradicate clogged pores, exfoliate dead skin and reduce further breakouts. It is the perfect
complement to a prescription acne regimen, and is popular among both teenagers and adults
alike. |

Glycolic Acid Peel
The Glycolic Acid Peel is the mildest of the chemical peels offered at Bernardo Dermatology. The Glycolic Acid Peel is a controlled superficial exfoliant that enhances the skin’s texture. It can help to improve blotchy pigmentation, freckling, sun damage, fine lines and can help in the treatment of acne. The Glycolic Acid Peel involves the application of glycolic acid to the skin; there are normally a few minutes of mild stinging or burning. A hand-held fan is used to decrease the burning sensation. After the peel, the skin may appear pink. During the next few days, there may be mild redness and occasional areas of flaking skin. The Glycolic Acid Peel is most often done in a series spaced three to four weeks apart. It is a noninvasive means for facial rejuvenation with very little downtime. |

SkinMedica Illuminize Peel
The Illuminize Peel is a gentle, superficial peel resulting in increased skin radiance. This peel
involves a combination of hydroxyl acids, phytic acid and salicylic acid in order to maximize
skin rejuvenating effects with low irritation. A hand-held fan is used to decrease any mild
burning sensation. There is little to no visible peeling but within 24 hours skin color, clarity and
texture is improved. The Illuminize Peel is most often done in a series spaced two weeks apart.
However it is also the perfect procedure to obtain that last minute “glow and go” before an
important event.

SkinMedica Vitalize Peel
The Vitalize Peel is a superficial peel for patients with mild to moderate skin conditions including fine lines, sun damage, pigmentary irregularities and acne and acne scarring. This peel involves a blend of peeling agents: hydroxyl acids, beta hydroxyl acids, and
resorcinol. Retinoic acid is applied as a final step. A hand-held fan is used to decrease any
burning sensation. There can be up to three days of mild peeling and the procedure is generally
repeated every 3-4 weeks.

SkinMedica Rejuvenize Peel
The Rejuvenize Peel is a superficial peel that penetrates into the deeper layers of the epidermis and produces the most exfoliation of the SkinMedica peels. It is recommended for patients with lines, sun damage, pigmentary irregularities, acne and acne scarring. This peel is comprised of the same
peeling agents as the Vitalize Peel but at a much stronger strength. A hand-held fan is used to
decrease burning sensation. There can be up to five days of mild peeling and the procedure is
generally repeated every 4-6 weeks.

Light TCA Peel
The Light TCA Peel is an intermediate strength chemical peel that is stronger than the
SkinMedica Peels, but not as strong as the TCA peel. The Light TCA Peel can improve blotchy
pigmentation, freckling, sun damage and fine lines. The Light TCA Peel involves the application
of a dilute trichloroacetic acid preparation to the skin. There are normally a few minutes of
stinging and burning after the medication is applied. A hand-held fan is used to decrease the
burning sensation. After the procedure, the skin turns darker and feels tight. During the course
of the next several days, the skin will peel in "cornflake" sized flakes. As the skin peels, it reveals
a new fresh layer of glowing, youthful appearing skin.

TCA Peel
The TCA Peel is the strongest chemical peel offered at Bernardo Dermatology. The TCA Peel can improve blotchy pigmentation, freckling, sun damage and fine lines. The TCA Peel involves the application of a concentrated trichloroacetic acid preparation to the skin. There are normally several minutes of burning or stinging after the medication is applied. Both prescription painkillers and a hand-held fan are used to decrease the burning sensation. After the peel, the skin turns darker, feels tight, then cracks and peels off in sheets over the course of the next five to ten days. The TCA Peel yields the most dramatic difference in overall skin appearance and rejuvenation. Unlike the other peels, it is not done in a series, but can be repeated once a year if desired. |

Lasers |
 |
|
Diolite 532
The Diolite 532 laser is used to treat selected vascular and pigmented lesions of the skin.
Telangiectasias (broken blood vessels), angiomas, lentigines (“liver spots”) and keratoses can
all be diminished using the laser. There is minimal downtime after treatment. After vascular
lesions are treated, there are a few hours of redness, which resolves spontaneously. After
pigmented lesions are treated, they turn darker and form a superficial crust that falls off
naturally within a week. Multiple treatments may be required, and are usually spaced about a
month apart.

Xtrac Excimer Psoriasis Laser
The XTRAC laser is an excellent treatment for most plaque psoriasis patients who have not obtained satisfactory results with other treatments. The XTRAC targets a narrow band UVB light directly at the plaques, avoiding exposure to normal skin. Each treatment is painless and takes only a few minutes. Treatments are generally given two or three times per week, and dramatic results are often obtained in an average of 6 to 10 treatments. Most major insurance companies and Medicare will cover these treatments. |
| |
|
Xtrac Excimer Vitiligo Laser
The XTRAC laser is an excellent treatment for many vitiligo patients. The XTRAC targets a specific type of light directly at the plaques, avoiding exposure to normal skin. Each treatment is painless and takes only a few minutes. Treatments are generally given two or three times per week, and dramatic results are often obtained in 30 treatments or less. The healthcare provider will usually be able to see signs of successful repigmentation beginning after 5 to 10 treatments. Clinical studies have shown that the best repigmentation rates are usually obtained in the face and neck areas, followed by the "mid-body" areas. |
